The tragic death of Madison from a car accident

Hello, All of you out there. This is Rick Lawrence, your guest speaker today.

I’m sharing with you a story about Madison, a teenager who died tragically from a head-on car collision.  Madison was so happy about the better house her parents had found. For once in her life she felt that she would be on the right side of town. She unpacked her things as she watched her new curtains blow in the breeze. How wonderful it was to have her own room. School would be starting; she'd have friends over soon. There'd be sleep-overs, and parties; she was so happy. These were the things most important in her life. It's just the way she wanted her life to be. She was consumed with her social plans – nothing else mattered. She figured she had her whole life ahead of her.

On the first day of school, everything went great. She made new friends and was even asked on a date! She thought, "I want to be popular and I'm going to be, because I just got a date with the star of the team!" To be known in this school you had to have clout, And dating this guy would be just the ticket. There was only one problem, her parents felt she was too young to date. "Well I just won't tell them the truth. They won't know the difference; what's there to lose?" Madison asked to stay with her friends that night.

Her parents said, "All right." Excited, she got ready for the big event. But as she rushed around, she began to feel guilty about all the lies she was telling her mom and Dad.  but what's hanging-out at a teen pizza party, and a moonlight ride? It won’t hurt anyone! Well the pizza was good, and the party was great, but the moonlight ride would have to wait. Dan, her date was half drunk by this time. But he kissed her and said that he was just fine. Then the room began filling with smoke – there were teens doing some weed, and Dan joined in.  Madison couldn't believe he was smoking that stuff. Now Dan was ready to drive the car to a hang-out called Lovers Point but only after he'd smoked another joint.

They jumped in the car for the moonlight ride, not thinking that he was too drunk to drive. They finally made it to the point, And Dan started making a pass, groping Madison . This was not what Madison wanted at all. As she struggled against it, she thought to herself, "Perhaps my parents were right....maybe I am too young.  This is gross; how could I ever, ever be so dumb!" With all of her might, she pushed Dan away: "Please take me home, I don't want to stay," she said.

Dan started the engine and floored the gas. In a matter of seconds they were going too fast. As Dan drove on in a fit of anger, Madison knew her life was in danger. She begged him to slow down, but he just went faster. She was panicky and was thinking, "Just let me get home!  I'll confess that I lied, I realize now I made the wrong decisions.  I really intended to go to a pizza party and  only for a moonlight ride." Then all of a sudden, she saw a big flash. "Oh we're crashing!" She doesn't remember the force of impact. Just that everything all of a sudden went black.   Madison felt someone remove her from the twisted rubble, And heard, "call an ambulance! These kids are in trouble!” she heard voices...a few words at best. But she knew there were two cars involved in the wreck, then wondered to herself if Dan was all right, and if the people in the other car made it through alive.

She awoke in the hospital Emergency Room. Some of the Doctors and nurses were sad and shaken. "You've been in a wreck and it looks pretty bad." These voices echoed inside her head, as they gently told her that Dan was dead. They said " Madison , we've done all we can do. But it looks as if we'll lose you too." "But the people in the other car!?" Madison cried. "We're sorry, Madison , they also died." Madison lay bloody and broken on the ER table. In her pain and anguish, she murmured,   “Oh, what have I done, I planned on only a night of fun."  "Tell those people's family, I’m so sorry.. I’m sorry it happened!”

"Tell Mom and Dad I'm sorry I lied, And that it's my fault so many have died. Nurse, won't you please tell them that for me?" The nurse just stood there, with tears in her eyes, holding Madison ’s hand, she couldn’t bring herself to tell Madison who it was that died in the other car.  And a few moments later, Madison also died. Another ER person asked, "Why didn't you tell her? It was her one last request" Crying, the nurse answered, "Because the couple in the other car were her own mom and dad."

We all have issues and problems in our lives from childhood through our teenage years and then our adult years.  Sometimes, some relationship or perhaps a social scene that is harming us. We know we should give it up, but we rationalize it – that means, we lie to ourselves about something and try to justify what we are doing– so we hang on and it drags us down and prevents us from reaching better and higher goals.  And what about making the decision that means eternal life for us in heaven?

Madison was caught up in a situation that a huge number of people face, she had her eyes only on this life and how she could get ahead through her own plans and decisions for her life. Unfortunately, that’s the big problem that derails people on planet earth. Rather than turning to God and opening our hearts to receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we keep Jesus at a distance, we refuse to turn our eyes upon Him, we would rather go our own way. That’s the sin of rebellion the Bible speaks so much about. This life is short compared to eternity, and often -- thru accident illness and death – our life becomes shorter than we expected.

Once our body dies, our souls are released to live on for eternity.  According to the Bible, God’s Word, there are two eternities: eternal life with God and Jesus in heaven, or eternity apart from God and Jesus in hell and the Lake of fire. In the Bible’s book of John, chapter 5, verse 25, Jesus, the Son of God, said God had given him the authority to judge all people. And he told the people gathered there listening to Him, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him [God] who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”

It is not uncommon for problems to arise in our lives and become almost too hard to bear. Yet, we need to look to Jesus who wants to reach out, take our hand, and if we ask him, he will come into our heart and life to forgive us of our sins and give us a new beginning. He will grant us eternal life if we invite him into our heart and life.  Jesus will be with us and sustain us as he lives in us. This great, supernatural change in us is what the Bible speaks of as being spiritually born again. In John chapter 3, Jesus talked to Nicodemus about it. Jesus said unless we are born again, we will never enter heaven.

As I finish, now -- I want to ask you, are you living only for the moment? Are you focusing on only your life now?  Are you are willing to give up ruling your own life and trust God to take over? At this very moment, you can make the decision and choice that will determine where you spend eternity. You can do this by inviting Jesus into your heart to become the Lord of your life. The Bible says, If you do this, you will be born again [spiritually] and you will inherit eternal life. You will have passed from eternal death and separation from God to eternal life in heaven, and your name will be written in the Book of Life in heaven.

Let me help you pray. Pray this prayer with me; Speak the words as we pray.   Heavenly father, I acknowledge the fact that I am a sinner. I repent and turn away from my sins. I ask for your forgiveness.  I open the door of my heart to you now, Jesus.  Please come into my heart to become the Lord of my life.  Amen
